Street treatment

We provide care for a number of common ailments of street dogs in Bodhgaya, mange being the most widespread.

Mange is a skin disease caused by tiny mites. Demodectic mange tends to cause hair loss, bald spots, scabbing and sores. Secondary bacterial infections can make it an itchy and uncomfortable disease. Sarcoptic mange tends to cause intense itching resulting in restlessness and frantic scratching. It also can result in hair loss, reddened skin, body sores and scabs, and can rapidly spread to the entire body.

Dogs are given a dose of Ivermectin oral solution on a biscuit. Dogs who cannot tolerate the taste are given Dectomax injectable endectocid. They are then marked to indicate they have taken the treatment, as double-dosing is dangerous.

Treatment is also administered for other infections as well as injuries.
